The South African Wine Industry Trust (SAWIT) was established in 1999 with the vision:

• To generate equitable access and participation in the South African wine industry on the part of those historically marginalised and still on the fringes of the industry to meaningfully participate in a globally competitive, profitable and sustainable industry, located within the broader transformation objectives of the agricultural sector, while also supporting the industry at large, visibly and measurably contributing to a better life for all; as well as facilitating or contributing in the cohesiveness of the industry and speaking in one voice.

SAWIT is currently undergoing a review and restructuring process.
