MY TOP 4 WINE FARMS ON THE CONSTANTIA WINE ROUTE

If you’re searching for a top wine experience, you’ll be spoilt for choice with some of the country’s best wine farms on the Constantia Wine Route. Besides enjoying top quality and award-winning wines, you’ll also fall in love with the natural surrounding beauty that these places are located in.

Here are a few of my favourites… Hope they’ll become yours too!

1. GROOT CONSTANTIA ESTATE
I always love visiting Groot Constantia, whether with friends for a chilled wine tasting at the cellar, lunch at Jonkershuis or Simon’s, or a walk through the beautiful estate with a visit to the Manor House Museum and Cloete Cellar with the family. The Groot Constantia experience is definitely one to add to anyone’s bucket list, if you haven’t visited yet. Their chocolate and wine pairing offering at only R160 comes highly recommended where you’ll taste 5 wines with 5 handcrafted chocolates and also receive a souvenir Spiegelau crystal glass to take home with you. So much to offer in one beautiful space.

Did you know…? Groot Constantia is the only wine estate included in the Cape Town Big 6, which also includes Cape Point, Kirstenbosch, Robben Island Museum, Table Mountain Cableway and the V&A Waterfront – all these experiences highlighting the absolute beauty of the Cape.

2. EAGLES NEST WINE
A gorgeous hidden gem located on the steep slopes of the magnificent Constantia Mountains. This wine farm is perfect for a relaxed afternoon where you can enjoy their wines in the Tasting Room or perhaps order a delicious and generous platter paired with their wines in their gorgeous garden. Bring the family and well-behaved dogs on a lead for a lovely day out. One can easily lose track of time in this setting – the surrounding trees and lush gardens make this a secluded and tranquil space.

Did you know…? Eagle’s Nest forms part of the World Heritage Site, Table Mountain.

3. SILVERMIST ORGANIC WINE ESTATE
Take a scenic trip through the tree-lined Constantia where you’ll find Silvermist Organic Wine Estate perched on the upper slopes of Constantia Nek. The property is home to the Silvermist Hotel as well as the sought-after La Colombe Restaurant – voted 7th best restaurant in the world by Tripadvisor. Their popular wine-tasting coupled with breath taking views of Table Mountain Nature Reserve is an unrivalled experience not to be missed. One of their sweet dogs, Rocketdog, is the estate’s mascot and features on all their wine labels.

Did you know…? Silvermist Organic Wine Estate is the only Organically Certified Wine farm on the Constantia Wine Route.

4. BUITENVERWACHTING
Yet another Constantia Wine Route gem – a must do for any visitor to the Cape, or locals who love supporting the myriad of amazing wine farms on our doorstep. Enjoy the Buitenverwachting wine tasting experience in their historic wine cellar which has a gloriously casual feel. Perfect for unwinding with some of the best wines. If you’re wanting some fresh air and an even more relaxed vibe, head out on to the lawns where you can enjoy a charcuterie platter to savour with your wines.

Did you know…? You can enjoy a superb artisan coffee at their sit-down restaurant called the Coffee BloC.
