Intro:

On the 9th of September WoSA will host a Masterclass together with Madeleine Stenwreth MW and Gary Jordan from Jordan Winery in Stellenbosch. The aim of this tasting is to show a broad spectrum of wines from South Africa with a focus on terroir. 

 
Description:

Madeleine Stenwreth is one of Sweden´s only three Masters of Wine, which is the highest title someone can achieve in the wine industry. She is one of the world´s most desired lecturers/judges and has a great passion for South Africa.  

Gary Jordan is one of the owners of Jordan Winery in Stellenbosch. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in geology, and he also studied viticulture and enology at the University of California (Davis). He is a past Chairman of the Cape Winemakers Guild and a frequent judge in panels for some of the major wine competitions in South Africa.  

The guests will arrive at 12:30 and will be greeted with a small snack and a glass of Cap Classique. After the short mingle we will head down to the bistro where we there will be a set -up of stations for the guests. They will have 5 glasses each, as well as personal spittoons and hand sanitizer. There will also be a list of wines for everyone. 

Gary Jordan will join on link from London and he will do an introduction about the geology of South Africa. After that Madeleine will guide our guests through five different flights. 

Flight one: Chenin Blanc (focusing on Chenins from different regions and soil types) 

Flight two: Chardonnay (focusing on Chardonnays from different regions and soil types) 

Flight three: Confronting climate change with varieties, altitude and ocean (a discussion around how altitude, closeness to water and different varieties will affect terroir and different climates. Both white and red wines)   

Flight four:  Syrah/Shiraz (focusing on Syrah/Shiraz from different regions and soil types  

Flight five: Stellenbosch Cabernet (focusing on Cabernets from different sites in Stellenbosch) 

After the tasting, we will also have a small selection of other wines to be tasted in a walk around format for those who wish. 

This Masterclass is aimed for journalists and sommeliers and due the Corona situation we will have limited number of seats and we are aiming for approximately 30-35 people.
